2021 Ride & Roast

They came, they rode, and they were all smiles by the end of the day.

Just over 180 riders pre-registered for this year’s ATV Minnesota Ride & Roast, and 280 showed up. Organizers made a quick trip to the grocery store for more food for the dinner and were happy to do so.

As in past years, the annual event was held at McQuoid’s Inn in Isle, Minnesota. Following a hardy pancake breakfast provided by the Isle Fire Department, riders lined up for guided rides and headed east on the Soo Line South Trail to the Red Top, Solana Loop and Class 1-only Foxy Loop. There was abundant water, mud and dust. Also plentiful were free trail atlases, regulation books, new Superior Forest motorized maps, and answers to rider questions, which were all at the education trailer of the Coalition of Recreational Trail Users (CRTU).

“What color IS your ATV?” was asked by the end of the day, as many wheelers and their riders were sporting serious mudpacks. It took a little while to move almost 300 people through the dinner line, but the mood was post-COVID upbeat, as everyone enjoyed the roasted turkey and pork, sides and dessert. Following short reports on ATV Minnesota events coming up and ATV-related bills awaiting action at the State Legislature, drawings were held for a variety of door prizes, rounding out the day with laughs and applause.

Thanks to Ken Irish and his team of volunteers for organizing this year’s Ride & Roast, to ATV Minnesota treasurer Erv Kleinschmidt and his family for managing the registration table and gear sales, to McQuoid’s Inn for hosting and allowing us to park on their lawn, and to everyone who attended.
