Many of the 440 ATV riders attending this year’s ATV Minnesota State Convention/Ride & Rally had never ridden in the area before. But after this year’s outstanding three-day event in Biwabik, they most definitely will be back for more. Ranger Snowmobile/ATV and Quad Cities —the host clubs — had every detail covered, showcasing a new trail, new 3/4-mile boardwalk and new connections to the vast trail system in St. Louis County.

Part 1 of 2: Heading out from home on a 525-mile ATV ride isn’t for everyone. But with some pre-planning and a few spare parts you might not normally pack on a short trail ride, long-distance overlanding can be an off-road adventure for the whole family.
Voyageur Country ATV wanted to add some overlooks to an existing bridge, and get the job done by fall. The club wanted to use Douglas fir timbers to handle the load anticipated on the viewing platforms. But the market was volatile; lumber companies couldn’t guarantee price or delivery. On top of that, no one in the area had an incising tool to cut slits in the dense wood prior to treating it with preservative.
